About B-Rated Safes
Burglary resistance ratings were established by the insurance industry and are based on how the safe is constructed in order to prevent burglary. Specifically, B-Rated safes are required to have doors constructed of a minimum of 1/2" steel and the body constructed with a minimum of 1/4" steel. These safes often come with additional security features which may include relocking devices, drill-resistant hardplates, larger and additional locking bolts, or larger anchor holes and hardware for securing it to the floor.
You don’t want to invest in a safe and store all of your valuables inside, and then leave it sitting in your closet. You should always anchor your safe to the floor (or wall where applicable) to prevent a thief from hauling your safe away to break into later. Most insurance companies cover B-Rated safes because of their added burglary protection. We recommend contacting your insurance company to ensure that the safe you buy will be covered by your insurance.
